13 IS OUR LUCKY NUMBER

13 is a number that divides people, depending on what you believe in the number can bring you luck or misfortune. Friday the 13th is a day that many people associate with bad luck with some people so superstitious about it that they will go to huge lengths to avoid any bad things happening to them, I know of one person who refuses to drive on Friday the 13th and keeps themselves snug indoors to try and deter bad luck.
It’s really interesting to find just how common the negative superstition of the number thirteen is, many tall buildings just skip from floor twelve to floor fourteen so as to avoid having a floor thirteen. Even though there technically is a thirteenth floor apparently the bad luck is cancelled out by not acknowledging it. Also having 13 guests at a dinner party is seen to be unlucky which goes back to the time of the last supper when Judas was the 13th person to join the last supper. Personally I think the more the merrier at any event!
Thirteen also has some really good connotations too! If you look at tattoo culture the number is often thought to bring to the person with the piece incorporating it. Here in the west of the world turning thirteen is seen as a big step in life when you move from being a child to being a teenager. Similarly in the Jewish culture a boy is celebrated becoming a man when he turns thirteen.
I think this all goes to show that everything is interchangeable and life shouldn’t be dictated by the negative connotations other people have with a number. 13 is our lucky number!
How do you feel about the number 13?
