Meet the latest couple in the Chupi Engagement Series: Chloe and Barry. Chloe tells us about her gorgeous engagement at their favourite spot, Killiney Hill, with the most gorgeous promise piece.

Barry and I met when we were teenagers, we were in a peer mentor group together on our first day of our undergrad degree (Biomedical, Health and Life Science in UCD). We were good friends for 6 years but nothing more as we had both been dating other people. We went to separate universities for medical school but stayed good friends and used to meet regularly for coffee or drinks.

About 6 and a half years after first meeting I had began to realise that maybe a spark had developed. Barry invited me out for dinner and a movie and the rest is history! That was over four years ago now and we’ve had lots of adventures since. We graduated in 2017 and have been working as doctors since. We’ve travelled across New Zealand in a camper van, lived in Australia for a year and taken other many trips together. Christmas of 2017 Barry bought me my first Chupi piece – an Initial Letter Disc necklace . I’ve worn it nearly every day since!

I’ve wanted a Chupi engagement ring for years, even before Barry and I started dating. I love the stories behind the pieces and that fact that they are designed and made here in Ireland.

I’ve wanted a Chupi engagement ring for years, even before Barry and I started dating. I love the stories behind the pieces and that fact that they are designed and made here in Ireland. I have also always wanted a morganite piece and have admired the Chupi morganite rings for years. My best friend has been warned for a long time that if Barry ever came asking for her advice it had to be Chupi and it had to be morganite!

In November of last year, Barry and I took a trip to visit friends in America. I was warned early on in that trip that no ring was coming as he knew I had been expecting something! On the day we flew home Barry suggested we go for a walk to stay awake and get over the jet-lag. We collected his family dog Missy for a walk to our favourite spot – Killiney Hill. Barry’s Dad even joined; between the jet lag and the diversion tactics he completely threw me off the scent.

It was sunset and perfect, I of course said yes!

Once we got to the obelisk at the top of the hill, Barry’s dad peeled away and I twigged that something was up. We rounded the corner to where we normally sit and it was decorated with bunting, fairy lights, lanterns and champagne. It was sunset and perfect, I of course said yes! Some time later once we had both stopped crying happy tears Barry’s dad remerged with his Mum and both of my parents.

Unbeknownst to us, my parents had been hiding out of earshot taking pictures. The six of us sat with our champagne and watched the sun set over Dublin. We stayed in a suite in Fitzpatrick’s Castle that night and have had lots of celebrations with friends and family since.

Barry, his Mum, my Mum and my best friend had all tried to pick a ring for me but could not reach a consensus! Lauren in the Chupi Store had been so kind and suggested a promise ring so that we could choose together and it’s perfect!

Barry proposed with a solid rose gold Promise Me Classic Diamond ring . He, his Mum, my Mum and my best friend had all tried to pick a ring for me but could not reach a consensus! Lauren in the Chupi Store had been so kind and suggested a promise ring so that we could choose together and its perfect! Barry and I chose the Solid Gold Queen Of Hearts Morganite ring together the following week.

We again met with the brilliant Lauren in the store. She was so kind and the whole process was such a joyful experience. She made us feel so special and I absolutely love my ring . I have admired halo ring styles for some time but also liked solitaires so it was great to get to try on many different styles to see what suited me.

We are now planning on using my promise ring as my wedding band as it also has such happy memories attached to it! I wear that in my everyday life in the hospital so both my pieces get plenty of use. Whenever I look at both pieces I feel so lucky and they both bring back such happy memories. Barry and I are getting married in a museum in Kilkenny city next summer. Plans are in full swing and we can’t wait to celebrate with our nearest and dearest.
