Meet the latest couple in the Chupi Engagement Series: Dermot & Lauren. Their story first began on almost seven years ago through an accidental add on Facebook. Lauren tells us how Dermot and her twin sister Kiera had a Virtual Appointment with the Chupi Team to choose her dream engagement ring.

Dermot and I first met almost seven years ago in the beginning of 2014 through an accidental add by my friend on my Facebook account! Dermot sent me a message to say hi the next day and we talked non-stop until we eventually had our first date two weeks later. Since then, we have both graduated, travelled together and began our careers together.

On our first date Dermot took me to the cinema and we actually arrived nearly 2 hours early for our film, a mistake which he still claims he did on purpose to get to know me better! We talked and laughed non-stop for the whole night and it just seemed all-go from that night on. I loved his sense of humour and laid-back attitude to life. He always brought out the best version of me and encouraged me to do everything I could to get into my dream course of veterinary nursing.

I couldn’t believe it and after a lot of tears and hugs I said the traditional Donegal ‘Aye’ instead of yes! After some more tears and excitement from us and the dogs, who had no idea what was going on, we facetimed both of our families who I discovered all knew and were all waiting for the phone call.

Since we live in a small town beside the sea, the beach is one of our favourite places to visit with my two dogs, Bonnie and Riley. The week he had planned to propose he asked me if I wanted to take my camera and tripod down to the beach to take photos of ourselves and the dogs. I never thought much of it but did mention it to my mammy who said ‘You know Dermot, he’s so cheesy and is probably looking to get a photo done for when you both move in together’. My sister agreed with her to avoid possible suspicions and so that morning, on the 14th November, we both set off to walk the dogs and our usual drive to the beach with my camera and tripod in my bag.

We got to the beach and Dermot kept fidgeting with his pocket (which I only noticed when thinking back afterwards) and wondering when everyone else that was on the beach would leave. Again, I never thought much of it and I picked out the perfect spot to start to taking photos of Dermot and the dogs, and looking back at them now, Dermot is sheet white and has his hand in his pocket in every photo!

I just loved the proposal and felt it was so perfect for us. Dermot knows how important my dogs are to me and it felt so special that they were both there with us when it was happening and in our favourite place as well.

After we had gotten some photos I attached my phone to the tripod and put it into video mode, which means I can screenshot the perfect photo when the dogs eventually stand still. We got some more photos and then Dermot handed me a card which talked about penguins, how they mate for life, and asking me would I be his penguin. I still had no idea about what was going to happen and then he got down on one knee with the little pink Chupi box.

As soon as we left my house that morning my family went into chaos and began chilling prosecco and hanging banners and a balloon arch, all which was secretly made the night before while I was in the house!

I absolutely love the grey diamond and I think the twig band is so unique. The ring is absolutely perfect for me and I still can’t believe I had no idea it was all happening!

Dermot knows how important my dogs are to me and it felt so special that they were both there with us when it was happening and in our favourite place as well. Dermot had actually asked my parents for permission back in March, but waited until August to begin picking out rings from Chupi. He asked my twin sister, Kiera for help and they both met, first of all to discuss which ring was the perfect ring for me from their knowledge, and a second time for a Virtual Appointment with the lovely team from Chupi.

I always talked about an engagement ring from Chupi but had no idea which one I would like. They ended up choosing the Queen of Hearts ring with a grey diamond and twig band which is absolutely gorgeous! The Chupi team were so helpful and were always on hand to answer any questions Dermot and Kiera had and they sent loads of photos and videos of the different rings that were available. Everything was done online and the ring was delivered by courier up to Donegal so quick, Dermot says it was an amazing service.

Dermot chose the 14th of November to propose as it was my Granda’s anniversary the day before. Dermot knew how close I was to my Granda and wanted to mark the occasion and make it feel like he was with us.

We are now coming up to our 7 year anniversary and have just moved into our new home. For now, we are loving being in our engagement bubble and just can’t wait to celebrate with our family and friends when the Covid-19 pandemic settles down and comes to an end. I keep joking with Dermot that we will be having engagement parties as soon as lockdown ends and right up until we get married! Once we choose our date we can’t wait to get down to Chupi to choose our wedding bands and begin our new life together.

If a Chupi engagement ring or Chupi promise piece was a part of your engagement, we’d love to hear from you and feature you on The Chupi Blog. You can find out more details on this exciting series here.
