Jewellery is one of our most treasured accessories. Whether it’s a sentimental piece or just something you adore, you want to keep your jewellery looking it’s very best and as good as new. Each piece of our jewellery is handmade with love and therefore it is very delicate. Regularly cleaning and taking care of your piece will ensure its beauty and sparkle for years to come.

Our precious jewellery is designed to be worn and loved. We're giving you the best tips on how to look after your fine jewellery, these simple tips below will help keep your precious pieces looking their very best.

Solid gold has a distinct beauty that many desire. Although it doesn't tarnish, it can get dirty from the oils in the skin, body lotions and perfume. Solid gold is so easy to care for, you can remove the dirt and restore the shine in seconds.

How to clean solid gold jewellery

What you need

  • A small bowl filled with warm water
  • An soft toothbrush
  • Gentle soap or washing up liquid
  • A soft cloth or polishing cloth

Method

  1. Fill a small bowl with hot water and gentle soap, our favourite to use is Lilly's Eco Clean Washing up Liquid.
  2. Place your jewellery in the solution for 1 minute.
  3. Using a soft, old toothbrush, gently brush your piece. The bristles are so soft so they will get your jewellery shining again without damaging your pieces.
  4. Rinse the piece with clean water.
  5. Pat your piece dry with a soft cloth or a polishing cloth.

We advise that you store your jewellery separately so that pieces do not tangle, rub or scratch against each other.

Will hand sanitiser damage my precious rings?

To keep your precious jewellery sparkling during this emergency, first do an audit of what you are wearing. If you wear any gold plated, costume or precious rings with more delicate gemstones like Opal, Emerald and Moonstones, take them off and keep them somewhere safe - they won’t be friends with hand sanitiser as they are softer, more porous stones.

Keep wearing your solid gold and diamond rings as they won’t have any issues, however white gold rings will need to be dipped afterwards. The main issue is soap and sanitiser causing a build up on your jewellery. Clean your precious rings weekly with the tips above to keep them sparkling. When this is all over, pop into your jeweller to have your piece checked. It’s an heirloom, we want it to last a lifetime.
